Biography

A former Italian international player, he played in the infamous UEFA cup winning team of Parma in 1999. He also scored in the final.


After retiring in 2007 he began his managerial career, working as the coach of many of the Italian national youth teams. Success here enabled him to be called as assistant coach for the full national team.


He then moved on as Antonio Contes assistant coach at Chelsea where he won a Premier League and then they went together to Inter Milano where they again won the league lifting the Serie A title.


From here he joined Spartak Moscow as manager where he won the Russian Cup before heading to Italy where he took over to manage Venezia gaining promotion to Serie A in his first full season.


He has now in 2024 been appointed as manager of Torino in Italy’s Seria A.
